I'm Nassira, a hearing queer femme linguist in Chicago (though I grew up in/around Northridge - CSUN all the way!). I study the structure of ASL and LSQ (Quebec SL), and also how both languages are used to construct/express social identities.
I'm joining the comm because I went to RAD this year (volunteered, actually, since it was in Chicago) and now I really miss the sense of camaraderie we built there. I'm involved in lots of queer stuff on-campus (including co-leading our trans*/genderqueer/SOFFA group), and a decent amount of Deaf stuff (for example, I'm the TA for first-year ASL, working with a Deaf professor), but nothing else that combines the two. So I guess I'm going through Deaf queer withdrawal. ;c)
I'm not sure what else to say; I know a few of you are already friends of mine, so please let me know if I've forgotten to mention something interesting!
